Sunshine, Smooth Travels, and a Good Book

June brings longer days, warmer weather, and new opportunities to explore. In this issue, you’ll find travel tips to help you navigate summer plans with ease and confidence. And because no trip—or staycation—is complete without a great book, we’re highlighting the latest pick from our Resilient Readers book club. It’s the perfect read to carry with you into the season.

Easy Escapes:
Stress‑Less Travel Tips – Part II

Welcome to part II of our summer series on travel tips for patients and survivors. Maygen Nolan, LCSW, OSW-C, manager, social work, Texas Oncology, shares more tips for navigating travel to balance your health needs with the sometimes-strenuous demands of traveling.

Build in “pause permission.”
Give yourself full permission to cancel or change plans without guilt. Flexibility is part of the plan—not a failure to follow it.

Normalize rest as part of the experience.
Rest isn’t something that takes away from your trip, it is part of your trip. Quiet moments, naps, or low-energy activities can still be meaningful and rejuvenating.

Prioritize what matters most.
Choose one or two “must-do” activities and let the rest be optional. This helps reduce pressure and allows space for your body’s needs.

Resilient Readers virtual book club is a new space to connect and enjoy reading in a new way – no pressure, no perfection, just community. Whether you’re in treatment, navigating survivorship, supporting a loved one, or caring for patients, you’ll find a circle that understands the complexity of the cancer experience while embracing the full spectrum of life beyond it.
